Welcome to La Paz

Wednesday, 29 May 2024

Well the altitude was a rude shock last night. It wasn’t bad, just mild headache, difficulty sleeping, I just didn’t think it would hit given I’ve been at various altitudes recently. But then again it’s been a few weeks. Fortunately it’s all cleared up and I’m all good now.

Tomorrow we head out to Uyuni and the salt flats. We’ve been warned no wifi, so it might be 4 or 5 days until my next update.

To Bolivia and more plans

Tuesday, 28 May 2024

Today I head to La Paz in Bolivia, whereabouts I join another tour group and explore only a few of the many  highlights Bolivia has to offer. I have also made some new plans…

Barbados in the offseason

Saturday, 25 May 2024

I arrived here on Wednesday and while there was a little rain initially the weather was beautiful. Thursday rolled around and it was a touch cloudy but once again the heat made swimming in the pools perfect, the only concern being to remember to wear sunblock.

Panama then Barbados

Tuesday, 21 May 2024

Another vacation in my vacation, currently laying over in Panama on my way to Barbados for a long weekend with a friend from the US.

After that I get back to serious travelling with my Bolivia section. First up a tour of the highlights around La Paz, then the mountain climb. That should be "fun".

Santiago

Saturday, 18 May 2024

It’s been a few days since I’ve posted! I’ve spent almost a week in Santiago Chile, with my friend Freddy.

Santiago is a beautiful city, being surrounded by the Andes is incredible, and you frequently look up and remind yourself of the beauty.

Hello Intrepid Friends!

Sunday, 12 May 2024

While it’s still many months until I head off to Africa, I’ve promised to share my travel blog with all of you. I’ll share it again to the various WhatsApp groups that still exist in October, but I thought I should share it now too.

I post here every few days letting my family and friends (of whom you all now are!) know where I am.

Come late October I’ll be posting periodically — I’ve been told we get wifi about once a week — and sharing what I’m able to, I imagine I won’t have fibre optic high speed connections to upload IMAX 4K video 🤣

In the meantime feel free to read how I’m going, or read back my entries for when I was with you (and read all the salacious rumours I spread!).

My contact details are the WhatsApp number you all have for me, as well as:

  • Email: nick@nickclifford.com
  • Phone/iMessage/WhatsApp/Signal: +1-650-276-6199
  • Physical address: lol.
I hope to see you all on the road sometime.

Rio de Janeiro

Saturday, 11 May 2024

We arrived in Rio in the late afternoon and had a brief walking tour before dinner. I’ve only really seen Rio from the air on the flight in, but what stuck out the most was how huge it was. Medium density housing as far as the eye could see. Tomorrow we go to the top to visit Christ the Redeemer, and I look forward to getting a better view of the city.

Bus to Foz do Iguazu, Brazil

Wednesday, 8 May 2024

Yesterday and the day before were spent at Ituzaingó, which was a nice town. It’s also nice to spend two nights at a place. The earlier part of this trip in Peru we were in each location for only one night (except for Cusco), which can get very exhausting. You don’t really get a chance to unpack and sort your stuff.

Buenos Aries

Sunday, 5 May 2024

I arrived 2 nights ago and had all of yesterday to explore around, but I failed in my mission to get to a laundry place or a haircut because here most places are closed on a Saturday and almost everything is closed on a Sunday (today).

I did however get some local currency out, and in doing so significantly contributed to the wealth of the nation…

Quarry trail day 3 and Machu Picchu (belated)

I wrote some of this in my notes but didn’t get around to publishing the 3rd and 4th day, so I’ll post the 3rd day now. The 4th was the reunion with the Inca Trail people and Machu Picchu. I haven’t written much about it, and I’m not sure I will, so I will dump some photos here for day 4 as well.

Back from the Jungle

Friday, 3 May 2024

It was humid. Somehow the humidity must have been over 100%. We weren’t breathing wet air, we were breathing water with air in it.

I shall try to post more photos in the coming days, but today I’m on the way to Buenas Aries.
