First road day

Today is the first road day, and getting the first impressions for what the vast majority of the next 327 days will be like.

We are heading to Chefchouen where we have two nights, a full free day. I’m going to use that day to figure out my ideal load out. I’ve got more space in the locker than my duffle, so I can use what I have.

I’m writing this as we ride in the truck, everyone is in very friendly spirits and joking around, though everyone also agrees we will probably be at each other’s throats in a month. 😂

It’s currently mild weather, and the inside of the truck warms up quite a bit with the sides roll down (they roll up). We tried them rolled up but then it got too cold. I strongly suspect in a week or two we will be riding with them rolled up the entire time.

I want to upload video and photos showing the truck, but wifi is in really short supply, and I don’t want to use up all my data. I’m sure at some point I’ll upload a bunch of photos and videos.

The ride itself in the truck is quite bumpy, but that’s a product of the road rather than the truck. Our driver, Paul, a career truckie from Australia, is happy with the truck and says it’s just had an overhaul. Fingers crossed that means we won’t have any major problems. (Ha!).

This morning was the first pack down of the camp, and it had been raining overnight and I had guyed and pegged the tent fully. So this has (hopefully) given me an idea of the longest time it takes to pack down when I’m feeling tired, and that time is 45 minutes (ughhh!). I’m very confident I’ll get faster (especially since when I practised back in London I was much faster).
