Africa soon!

I'm back! After 2 and a bit months rest in London and New Zealand, I'm getting ready to embark on the next big adventure!

This is the 47 week (yes, really) overland expedition around Africa with Oasis Overland. And when I say around, I mean around. This trip starts in Fes (Morocco) at the top left of the map, travels down the western coast of Africa down to South Africa, and then back up the eastern side of Africa, finishing in Cairo, Egypt.

I will be travelling with a group of up to 23 other people in a specially built custom truck, camping outside almost the entire time. This is no Intrepid journey, we are doing a lot of the work ourselves. Everyone has to work together. We are split into teams of 3 or 4, and each week your team has to cook for the entire group.

This is going to be an absolutely epic adventure.

Current Status

In my storage unit in London is my duffle bag with the majority of my supplies. Most are from my South America trip, but I've also purchased new things that I need, such as a 3 season tent and sleeping bag (in fact I've entirely upgraded my sleep system).

I am returning to London at the end of this week, where I will repack (for the 4th time) my entire duffle and order a few more things I realised I need.

When

I'm flying back to London on the 5th of October, and I'll be leaving London for Morocco around the 25th of October. The trip kicks off in Fes on the 27th of October, and continues until around the 22nd of September 2025(!).

What am I bringing

As little as possible and quite a lot. I have a maximum capacity of 100L, and I'm bringing a 90L duffle bag to that end. Given what I am taking volume is the biggest issue, not weight, and I've found that volume wise my camera gear takes up quite a bit of space.

Below are some of the highlights of what I'm bringing:

    • Wide angle 9-14mm (18-24mm equiv) lens
    • Standard 14-150mm (28-300mm equiv) lens

    • Spare batteries.
  • Other Audio/Visual:
    • Nikon Binoculars

    • 2x 2TB USB Drive for storing and backing up video and photos
    • 1x USB Drive loaded with a years worth of movies
    • Assortment of USB cables
    • USB Xmas lights
  • Sleep System:
    • Nemo Dagger 2P Tent
    • Nemo Tensor Sleep pad
    • Sea-to-summit Spark Pro -2C sleeping bag

    • Leatherman
    • Work gloves
    • Flashlight (White/Red/UV)
    • Headlamp (usb recharable)
    • Loop earplugs
  • Clothing:
    • 2x Convertible hiking pants (zipoff pants)
    • 3x Quick dry L/S shirts
    • 2x T-Shirts
    • 4x Darn Tough Socks

While it seems like a lot, it's not really. The biggest volume is the camera gear, but I really do want to work on my video production skills much like I did in Bolivia for this trip.
