I'm going to achieve this trip by going with Intrepid Travel on their Central American Journey, there is going to be a lot of land travelling, aside from flying to Guatemala to begin the trip, there is no air travel. About 52 hours of travel over 17 days. Yes, that is insane.
There was quite the apprehension pushing that final "pay now" button, but I'm not here for a vacation, I'm exploring. I can vacation in Tahiti anytime. No point learning Spanish if I'm not going to use it.
The trip starts on Feb 26th, so the timeline will go:
- Feb 23rd, last day of class.
- Feb 24th, checkout of homestay
- Feb 25th, fly to Antigua, Guatemala that night (there aren't many flights between Costa Rica and Guatemala, and I need to arrive at the hotel in Antigua before 6pm on the 26th.
- Feb 26th, meet at the start point at 6pm.
- <insert a huge amount of travelling>
- March 13th, finish the trip again in San Jose, Costa Rica.
My plan is to rent a locker in San Jose (I have confirmed I can get one, and am in the process of booking it now) where I leave my big backpack, and just take my small carryon only backpack. It should be quite sufficient. I've been essentially living out of it this whole time, my big backpack is mainly carrying the mountain and high altitude gear and camping stuff, I won't need that for this part of my trip. So I can leave it in San Jose. (Yes Mum, that will make a 3rd country where I have a storage locker with my stuff in it).
And after that?
Not 100% sure, but I want to get down to Panama City too, so maybe another short trip that stop in some other places in Costa Rica -- I thought I was going to do a bunch of excursions on the weekend here, but so far I've spent every weekend either decompressing or studying.
